The topic of annoying movie characters isn't new to WhatCulture.com (hence the adjective 'more' in the title), as Nafissa Jeetoo has had
her say on it previously, as has Stuart W. Bedford
before her. Having watched a lot of movies lately in which certain characters have really bugged me, I found myself purposefully re-watching movies just to remind myself of how annoying certain characters are. As a result, I've decided to weigh in on the topic with ten more decidedly irritating characters from the world of movies. Note that the likes of Jar Jar Binks and Sam Witwicky (ugh) have already been picked in previous lists and will therefore not be in this one! Here goes...
10. Quint (Jaws)
Let's get the controversial one out of the way first. Quint (Robert Shaw) is undoubtedly an iconic character, but his cantankerous pigheadedness was the reason the Orca came into trouble in
Jaws and was, ultimately, the reason
he perished. He refused to turn the boat around (to go and get
a bigger boat), he refused to ask for help and he even smashed the boat's radio up so no one else could, and he then burnt out the boat's engine by putting too much power in to it. In conclusion, Quint's stubbornness and determination to prove that old fashioned methods were more effective than those of Matt Hooper's then-modern methods were the causes of the dire situation that he, Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) found themselves in. His attitude, when looked at from this perspective, makes him all the more annoying. He also runs his nails down a chalkboard. That alone warrants a place on this list.
