Legendary in all the right ways, Halloween is John Carpenter's masterpiece, and Michael Myers has long stood the test of time for terrifying movie audiences young and old. Stoic, unfeeling, and incredibly fast-paced for a man that never runs, there's a myriad of reasons why Myers is so scary. But all of them come to being in Carpenter's exceptional opening five minutes.

Filmed in PoV style as an unknown watcher stalks a family home, Halloween begins slowly but surely as the camera sneaks through suburban bliss - depicting an outstretched arm picking up a knife before heading upstairs to use it. Voyeuristic in the most hedonistic way, we're then strapped in to watch a young girl get stabbed repeatedly, telling the audience that whoever is doing this is as sick in the head as they are emotionally unwavering in their murderous endeavour.

And then it's all over. It's only when the masked killer then heads outside that he's revealed to be a six-year-old child, and history was made in both Haddonfield and in cinemas the world over.
