The MCU is well-known for its reliance on visual effects (to a fault in many cases) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is no different. Fortunately, James Gunn's franchise farewell brought with it a fantastically realised story with near-impeccable effects work on both the practical and digital fronts.

However, one moment fails to match the rest of the trilogy-capper's visual splendor, and it involves Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) and his desperate flight through Counter-Earth to save Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) from impending doom.

The Sovereign creation's flight through the exploding planet is undeniably energetic and conveys his astonishing speed, but is let down by its odd camera placement and almost wobbly movement. This brings a lot of attention to the VFX being used to create the sequence, and not in a good way.

One can feel that Gunn and his creative team were going for a frenzied and immersive depiction of Warlock's flight but it did not quite soar as expected. Hopefully, the director will have more success depicting this incredible superhuman ability in 2025's Superman Legacy.
