10 More Stunning Movies With One Awful CGI Moment
3. The Rhino's Reveal - The Amazing Spider-Man 2
For all its faults, the Amazing Spider-Man 2 is an undeniably pretty picture. Marc Webb's film features dynamic camerawork, vibrant lighting and colouring, and the VFX works well, especially when it comes to depicting the titular hero's high-flying acrobatics.
That said, the villains are a mixed bag. Electro's (Jamie Foxx) bio-electric heavy appearance is sometimes passable but also veers into questionable territory, and the same could be said with the makeup work done to realise Dane DeHaan's Harry Osborn/Green Goblin. However, none of their worst moments hold a candle to the laughably bad effects work used to bring Paul Giamatti's Rhino to life.
In the film's closing sequence, a rejuvenated Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) confronts the mecha-suited villain, but before doing so the two exchange a few barbs.
None of these one-liners elicit the same kind of emotions that the Rhino's atrocious design did, as viewers are subjected (or treated, depending on your sense of humour) to the sight of Giamatti's head floating in the middle of a vulgar approximation of the character's design from the comics.
