A solid premise can go a long way in the horror genre, but only if it's followed up with committed dedication in the actual filmmaking. Thankfully, Exte: Hair Extensions is a film that commits to its premise wholeheartedly.

If the title didn't already give it away, this is a film about killer hair extensions: a setup that may sound like it has limited mileage, but those behind this delightfully bonkers Japanese horror film display some real creativity that completely justifies its runtime.

The plot revolves around a local hairdresser whose fetish for human hair causes him to border on the insane. He makes a living by selling human hair that he harvests from the corpse of a young girl, who despite being dead, continues to grow new hair.

The girl's restless spirit ensures that anyone who dares to adorn themselves with the ill-gotten hair meets a grisly fate, and it's every bit as weird and kooky as it sounds.

Fans of Asian horror should absolutely seek this one out as it's a whole lot of fun, and genuinely unlike anything else you've ever seen. It may even make you think twice about impulse purchases of hair extensions.
