10 More Weirdest Cult Horror Films You Need To See
5. Rubber
Any film that opens by telling you just how strange things are going to get has a lot to live up to, but boy-howdy does Rubber deliver on its promise in glorious fashion.
A wholly meta and surreal entry in the genre, Rubber tells the story of a sentient car tire that possesses psychokinetic abilities, but instead of using these powers for good, said tire decides to go on a murderous rampage. All the while a group of film enthusiasts watches the events from afar, commenting on the events that unfold.
It sorta goes without saying really, but Rubber definitely isn't for everyone and will leave many scratching their heads in disbelief at what they're seeing. However, the film perfectly counterbalances its ridiculousness by continually pointing out its own gaps in logic and reason, making the audience feel included in the joke.
It's every bit as bizarre as it sounds, and for those who love a healthy side of meta humour with their blood-drenched meal, there's endless joy and laughs to be found in the way Rubber dances to the beat of its own drum.
But all that aside, it's a film about a sentient, murderous tire that has psychic abilities. What's not to love?
