10 More Weirdest Cult Horror Films You Need To See
4. Dumplings
Of all the films featured in this list, Dumplings no-doubt has the most nauseating, yet intriguing story.
The film centres around a former actress desperately trying to cling to her fading looks by any means necessary. She stumbles across a lady selling special dumplings that she claims can reverse the ageing process, leading our heroine to walk down a very dark path.
This film examines our fascination with beauty, whilst pushing the boundaries of acceptability to brand new heights. To reveal the nature of the Dumplings would be a huge disservice to this its sickly charms, and going in blind is the best way of seeing this film for the first time.
Outside of its sickening nature, the film is exceptionally well-made and has many brave and committed performances from its cast. So much so that they help elevate the material well above the standard genre fare that would dare to dip its toe into subject matter that's so foul and taboo.
And for a bonus entry here, Dumplings is based on a short that was featured in the film Three Extremes, a fantastic anthology film that features contributions from both Takeshi Miike and Park Chan-wook.
