10 Most Annoying Movie Characters EVER

3. Jar Jar Binks - Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Is it low-hanging fruit to pick Star Wars' Jar Jar Binks? Perhaps, but it'd also be totally dishonest to exclude a character so infamous for pissing off a large swath of the fanbase.

Introduced in prequel The Phantom Menace as a comic relief sidekick, Jar Jar's ear-splittingly high-pitched voice, generally irksome clumsiness, and highly questionable presentation as a racist caricature all conspired to ensure he was the very worst thing about the prequel trilogy.

Inserted into the series by George Lucas in order to appeal to the very youngest of children, adults simply found Jar Jar exhausting any time he appeared on screen.

Mercifully Lucas at least appeared to appreciate the vocal fan feedback, as Jar Jar's role was severely lessened in the next two movies, even if he nevertheless ended up playing a major role in Emperor Palpatine's (Ian McDiarmid) ascent, which only makes him even more obnoxious.

Jar Jar is what happens when a filmmaker would rather sell lunchboxes and action figures to kids than tell a compelling story.
