10 Most Anticipated Horror Films Coming In 2021

6. The Conjuring 3

Yet another modern horror franchise mainstay, The Conjuring shows no signs of slowing down. The main, numbered entries, along with The Nun, Annabelle and The Curse of La Llorona spin-offs all create far too much money for Warner Bros to stop now.

Michael Chaves, who directed The Curse of La Llorona, takes over directing duties from James Wan for The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are back as paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren.

This time, the spine-tingling ghost story is set in Connecticut during the 1980s, and is based on the murder trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, who was the first murder suspect in US history that claimed demonic possession as a defense.

Although based on fantastical events, the previous Conjuring films have done a great job at making their stories seem believable, captivating audiences in a different way than most slashers and creature-features that dominate successful horror films. This is what makes fans so excited to see another entry coming this year.

With the third entry already being pushed back, its new June 4 US release date seems likely to stick, as it is releasing simultaneously in American theatres and on HBO Max.
