Even if you enjoyed the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, there were many who didn’t. Fans wanted a sequel to the beloved 80s classics, and instead got a soft reboot.

The film also suffered a campaign of ridiculous online abuse directed towards its four leads, and underperformed at the box office. Any plans for a sequel were swiftly dropped and instead, Sony is releasing Ghostbsters: Afterlife, a direct sequel to the first two films.

Trading in New York City for small town America, Jason Reitman is co-writing and directing the film, which stars Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, and returning Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver. The iconic Ectomobile and Ghost Traps are also returning, as can be seen from the trailer.

Reitman seems to have put all his eggs in the nostalgia basket for this family-friendly dip into the supernatural, and we can't wait to see if it manages to capture the charm and quality of the 1980s originals.

The film has a November 11 US/UK release date, giving fans hope that the already delayed film will actually get to release this year.
