Lee Daniels is renowned for his biographical and hard-hitting dramas, such as The Butler, The United States vs Billie Holiday, and Precious. And now, the esteemed filmmaker has decided to take a dive into horror, with his frightfest, The Deliverance.

In this Netflix exclusive, a single mother called Ebony Jackson moves to Indiana, hoping to start a new life with her children. When Ebony discovers a wicked spirit is looming in her new home, she does everything in her power to protect her family.

This story is heavily inspired by Latoya Ammons, a woman who reported a haunting in 2011. During this event, which is known as the 200 Demons House, Latoya claimed paranormal forces caused her children to levitate, walk up walls, and speak in inhumane voices.

Even though possession films are often seen as schlocky B-movies, the acting talents of Omar Epps, Andra Day, and Academy Award winners, Mo'Nique and Glenn Close are sure to elevate the material.

If Lee Daniels' first horror feature turns out to be a triumph, let's hope we see him plunging into the genre again in the future.
