Another one that's a case of finally, after plenty of "to be released in 2024" sentiment, Ti West's MaXXXine has now been locked in for a July release. And if this threequel can match West's X and Pearl, the filmmaker could have an all-timer of a horror trilogy on his hands.

With the excellent Mia Goth once again front-and-centre, MaXXXine picks things up with Goth's Maxine Minx six years after the brutal events of X; brutal events of which she was the sole survivor. Here in 1985, Maxine is trying to break out of the adult entertainment industry and cement herself as a full-blown A-list movie star - all as the sinister Night Stalker slashes their way through some of those close to Maxine.

West and Goth have more than enough credit in the bank with X and Pearl, and throwing the neon sheen of the 1980s over this world only adds to the expectation that MaXXXine will prove to be a standout of the year. Given the brilliance of X and prequel Pearl, the bar has been set extremely high for the final leg of this trilogy, and hopefully the film rounds things out in a fitting way both in terms of story and quality.

Release Date: 5 July
