10 Most Anticipated Sci-fi Movies Of 2024

Fede Alvarez is something of a hidden gem of the horror world, despite having helmed several rather large features and having well and truly put his stamp on the Evil Dead franchise. As such, it's easy to get excited about the new aesthetic, stylistic and narrative elements he brings to one of the biggest sci-fi franchises of all time: Alien.

2024's Alien: Romulus promises to be a first on several fronts, including the first standalone entry in the franchise. This essentially gives Alvarez carte blanche to go to strange and dark places in whatever way he sees fit, having to neither align with Ridley Scott's new trilogy (for which I am still keenly awaiting the third entry), nor the Ripley saga.

Said to take place sometime in the 57 years separating Scott's atmospheric original movie and James Cameron action-heavy sequel, we can almost certainly expect Alvarez to tack to the former's style, with nail-biting tension and a pervasive suspense. No matter what, there will be plenty of Xenomorph to sink our sharpened teeth into.
