10 Most Anticipated Summer Blockbusters Of 2017

8. The Fate Of The Furious

Wonder Woman Trailer
Universal

Release date: 14th April

Here’s a fun drinking game: watch the new Fast and Furious movie, and drink every time somebody says “family”. It comes up enough times during the trailer that you probably won’t make it to the end credits.

It’s been interesting to see how the F&F franchise has morphed over the last decade though, from glossy urban street-racing movies to full blown paramilitary action blockbusters. The Fate of the Furious will evidently not reveal the fate of the furious with any sense of finality, because two more sequels are planned for 2019 and 2021. The name was arguably just a way for the studio to find clever ways of incorporating the number eight into promotional material.

All jests aside, the Furious bunch have their admirers, and the series stands out as one of the most honest and universally popular action franchises of all time. There’s no subtext to The Fast and the Furious, it’s just explosive and well-staged action bolstered by a likeable and charismatic cast. With new additions like Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren joining The Rock, Vin Diesel, Jason Statham and Michelle Rodriguez, Fast 8 will probably be no different.
