10 Most Anxiety-Inducing Horror Movie Scenes EVER
8. Sword Play - Super Dark Times
Super Dark Times is a psychological, unnerving movie that devolves into slasher territory by its end - unspooling all the tightly coiled tension it ramps up before hand. Its limited brilliance, though, is never better realised than just after the opening half hour, where a group of four boys become friends and wile away their time outside of school annoying each other in that special way only teenagers can.
It all comes to an electrifying head when they go out with a katana found in Josh's brother's room, intent on slicing milk cartons in the nearby fields. With a title like Super Dark Times, and a set up like this, it isn't long until that nasty feeling in the pit of your stomach starts bubbling to the surface. And for good reason.
Things come to a head when Josh takes the katana and starts fighting with his friend, who falls over. Only, he hasn't just fallen over, he's impaled in the throat - and the boys panic as to whether to remove the sword to some seriously dire consequences.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, as every watcher dreading this terrible outcome will realise.
