10 Most Bizarre Cases of Movie Censorship

2. Contradicting North Korea's Crazy 2012 Predictions - 2012

While many people would have probably chosen to ban Roland Emmerich's 2012 on the grounds of it being an offence to quality cinema, the authorities in North Korea banned it for one of the most bizarre reasons of all time. Which is a bold statement, given North Korea's reputation for banning movies on the most spurious of grounds. 2012 plays loosely with the many end of the world prophecies concerning that infamous date, unleashing wave after wave of effects-heavy natural disasters on the people of Earth. The North Korean government were none too happy that this year was viewed in such a negative slant - 2012 was, after all, the centenary of the birth of the nation's founder, Kim Il-sung. Anyone found with a pirated copy of the film was charged with "grave provocation against the development of the state."
