Gamora's journey revolved around her escaping the influence of her evil father, Thanos and coming good in the process. As a Guardian, Gamora displays bravery, decency and leadership, redeeming herself from the life of slaughter she once lead. It's all going so nicely until she is captured by her gauntlet wielding mentor and coerced into leading him to the Soul Stone.

It just so happens that Gamora is the only individual in the universe that Thanos loves. Devastated, Thanos moves ahead with her sacrifice, slowly dragging her to the edge of the cliff and throwing her to her death. It's a dark and emotional scene, with the anguish and despair apparent in both characters' expressions. Gamora screaming on the fall down is a horrible final scene for the character, with her years of breaking away from Thanos' clutches undone in mere minutes.

Worse still, Gamora's barbarous demise later causes Star Lord's emotional meltdown and inadvertent sabotage of a plan that nearly had Thanos beat. The consequences included that little issue of half the universe's life forms turning to dust. A pivotal, game changing moment in the MCU, Gamora's death was a tragedy from start to finish.

While a 2014 timeline Gamora is now out there, the one we knew and loved is seemingly never coming back.
