10 Most Brutal Deaths In MCU History
2. Thanos - Endgame
First the hand, then the head. Thanos' ferocious slaughter at the hands (or rather axe) of Thor comes as a monumental shock. Twenty minutes in, and the lead baddie's going six feet under. Already burnt to a crisp thanks to his destruction of the Infinity Stones, Thanos' last days revolve around suffering.
What's curious about Thanos here is that he retired to his farm without guards of any kind to keep him safe. No ships, no Outriders, nothing. Co-writer Christopher Markus revealed that Thanos was content to die by the Avengers when the time came, "They only accomplish what Thanos lets them accomplish. He has finished his job and lets them kill him."
With his purpose fulfilled, Thanos likely saw himself as a martyr and was therefore comfortable in letting his life conclude so suddenly. This added depth to the mega-chinned menace's final days ups the sorrow surrounding Thor's vengeful actions.
Worse still, Thanos' death comes in the midst of him finally admitting to mistreating Nebula. Some of the blood from his exposed neck stump lands on his daughter's face for extra oomph. His 2014 self fares even worse later on, never managing to use the gauntlet at all.
