There were a lot of theories on what would happen in Avenger: Endgame after the huge cliffhanger Infinity War left us with, but no one thought Thanos was going to die in the first few minutes of the movie.

The death itself is the most brutal part of Endgame.

Here, Thanos minding his own business until The Avengers come charging in from all directions. When they immobilize the rogue, Thor moves in fast by chopping his arm off so that the villain cannot use the Infinity Gauntlet. That alone is one shocking and brutal moment, complete with a toe-curling scream from Thanos. However, the worst is yet to come.

After Thanos explains that he has destroyed the Infinity Stones, Thor did not even wait for him to finish talking, decapitating Thanos mid-sentence. When asked to justify what he has done, Thor replies, “I went for the head”.

By no exaggeration, it is one of the most shocking first few minutes in cinema history.
