10 Most Brutal Slasher Movie Killers

2. Freddy Krueger

Terrifier Art the Clown
New Line Cinema

(First appearance: A Nightmare On Elm Street - 1984)

This death-defying demon of the dream realm has found himself staying not only relevant, but increasingly prevalent as the manifestation of a night terror terrifyingly brought to life. This nightmare invading child murderer has found his calling in life - ironically enough - after his life was ended by the parents of the children on Elm Street, that Mr. Krueger would slaughter without mercy or unrest.

Freddy is inspired by the unrest of a young Wes Craven, as he peered out of his bedroom window to find an unfamiliar man donning the now trademark hat and jumper that his legend is now known for staring back at him.

The parallels end there however, as the madman found in this series is a cut above the rest in substance and style. So much style in fact, that besides the rap sheet he has built, sustained and stained with the blood of his victims over the decades, he has so much personality that time after time we welcome his presence as much as we cower from it.

His kills may shiver our spines with chills and his brash, crass personality may enthral us with thrills but the only reason he retains the number two spot in a placement that seems unfairly shrill, there is but one more that completely fits the bill.
