2. Loki Is In Cahoots With Thanos
Thor's trickster brother composes evil plots so complicated they're akin to the Dean's attempts to team up with everyone in that conspiracy episode of Community: “When you conspire with everyone you come across, you're not really conspiring with anyone. You're just doing random crap.” In that light, his teaming up with Thanos makes perfect sense.
As of Thor: The Dark World, Loki has already unleashed an alien invasion on Earth, and then seized the throne of Asgard whilst pretending to be his dad Odin. He just wants to mess stuff up for everyone who's wronged him, which now includes the Avengers, so naturally he would want to offer any services he can to Thanos.
He was obviously helping Thanos out in The Avengers but he might, according to some theories, still be on his payroll. The Mad Titan has been shown to operate many agents across the cosmos, and Loki actually did a decent job causing a ruckus in the first team-up.
