9 Most Compelling Theories About Upcoming Marvel Movies

1. Adam Warlock Is Star-Lord's Dad

The mystery of Peter Quill's parentage didn't become as big a deal as the beginning of Guardians Of The Galaxy made out. Sure, his mum was a human woman who died of cancer, but the boy who would be Star-Lord was swiftly taken up by Yondu, who was supposed to deliver the kid to his – presumably also alien – father.

At the end of the film, Yondu shrugs off any concerns, saying Mr Quill is a “jackass”. That comes after Glenn Close's Nova Prime has analysed Peter's DNA and says he's part of an ancient, unknown species. The second film is said to actually tidy that particular thread up, and a popular rumour ties Quill's parentage into Adam Warlock.

A cosmic hero whose cocoon is said to appear in The Collector's storage facility in the first film, Warlock would make sense as Star-Lord's dad: he's ancient, powerful, a space-based hero, and director James Gunn has already confirmed Quill's heritage will be different to the comics (where he's the son of a cosmic dictator nobody likes).
