Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker revolves around a reality-defying terrain called The Zone. This land contains an area, known as The Room, which grants the wishes of anyone who enters it. After teaming up with a writer and a professor, a man referred to as The Stalker guides them through The Zone, hoping to find the fabled Room.

Although the trio's journey isn't easy, it won't be as difficult as the viewers' quest to understand what the hell is going on. Because of the 162-minute runtime, slow-burn drama, long takes, and vague dialogue, Stalker will test the patience of many.

The way it deviates from a linear narrative and focuses on philosophical and existential themes is another reason why the audience will struggle to connect with it. Tarkovsky employs baffling visuals and dense dialogues, which is challenging to follow, especially if viewers aren't familiar with the Soviet era. Although the novel which inspired Stalker is considered incoherent, it feels like Tarkovsky deliberately ramped up the weirdness to ensure the plot is as inaccessible as possible.

Even though avid film fans should have a thought-provoking experience while watching Stalker, comprehending it is a different story altogether.
