Saying The Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears is "weird" doesn't do it justice. More accurately, watching this experimental giallo feels like experiencing the most vivid fever dream while marching through the bowels of Hell.

This film opens with businessman Dan arriving home to learn his wife Edwige is missing. Searching for his partner throughout his apartment complex, Dan speaks with several occupants, each offering cryptic clues of Edwige's whereabouts.

Although The Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears has plenty of peculiar characters, the oddest of them all is the complex itself. The maze-like building has an unsettling effect on its denizens, causing them to behave in a surreal manner. As Dan's investigation persists, the nebulous dwelling takes hold of his mind, slowly but surely creating a rubber reality for our protagonist.

Because of the fragmented narrative and oneiric sequences, it's challenging to decipher what's real and what isn't. The cinematography, colour palettes, and soundtrack become more disorienting as the story progress, gradually intensifying the confounding atmosphere. By the time the third act is reached, even the frame-rate has checked out, with sound effects and dialogue out of sync with what's going on.
