10 Most Confusing Horror Movies You'll Ever Watch

7. Pi

The Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears
Artisan Entertainment

Even though Darren Aronofsky has worked on many surreal and macabre films over his long and illustrious career, Pi is still deemed his biggest head-trip.

His chilling feature debut revolves around a reclusive schizophrenic called Max. After his computer randomly spits out a 216-digit number, Max's friend tells him he can unlock the secrets of the universe by studying numbers. As Max obsesses over the enigmatic digit, his mental health spirals out of control, leading to vivid hallucinations, cluster migraines, and self-trepanation.

Pi is filled with Aronofsky staples, including erratic editing and deliberately vague dialogue, making the film inaccessible to some. And when Hasidic sects, Kabbalah, the Quran, number theory, brain-drilling, and the board game Go are thrown into the mix, Pi feels like a movie nobody can understand.

Although some features require multiple viewings to comprehend, watching Pi repeatedly is sure to leave viewers with far more questions than answers.

If you're a fan of Aronofsky's work, and want to see something more cerebral than The Fountain, more WTF than Black Swan, and more mystifying than mother!, Pi is worth a watch.
