Even though Nacho Vigalondo has had a diverse directing career, none of his films have wowed (and confused) viewers as much as Timecrimes. In this low-budget sci-fi flick, a simple man called Hector is exploring the woods when he's attacked by a mysterious figure draped in pink bandages.

Hector flees from his pursuer and hides in a tub, unaware it's a time machine. As he re-emerges, Hector realises he has travelled one hour into the past. When Hector realises his actions might jeopardise his life, he does what he can to set things right.

Similar to Primer, Timecrimes is quite the mind-bender, since it deals with paradoxes, causal loops, alternative timelines, and the protagonist dealing with his past, present, and future selves. Because Past Hector sees Present Hector as Future Hector and vice versa, the whole dilemma is tricky to follow.

The actions of some characters only make sense in hindsight, which is why Timecrimes is worth watching a few times. Although most timey-wimey stories are incomprehensible, following Timecrimes is possible... if viewers are willing to give it a LOT of thought afterward.
