10 Most Confusing Horror Movies You'll Ever Watch

4. The Empty Man

The Empty Man kicks off with Greg and his three friends hiking through a mountain in Bhutan. When Greg falls into a cave, he discovers a humanoid skeleton that harbours skeletal wings. Within a day, the four mountaineers inexplicably slash each other to ribbons or toss themselves off the cliff.

After watching this mesmerising prologue, viewers will be desperate to learn more. And when the protagonist, ex-detective James Lasombra, tries to learn the origins of this supernatural entity, it looks like the story will conclude with him cracking that case.

However, it isn't that kind of movie. The Empty Man incorporates multiple timelines, dream sequences, flashbacks, and a time-jumping narrative. Viewers are confused from the get-go, since they were under the impression the ensemble in the first scene were the main characters, up until the moment they met their untimely end. The meaning behind the supernatural occurrences is rarely divulged, allowing viewers to throw in their own theories.

Since the conclusion is open-ended and intentionally keeps certain plot-threads unresolved, The Empty Man is an experience that leaves everyone scratching their heads.
