10 Most Controversial Directors Of All Time

8. Larry Clark

522399-larry-clarkMost Controversial Film: Kids One of the most exploitative directors of modern times, Larry Clark is a man who seems to get off on inserting young people, and by young I mean underage, into provocative situations that are often sexual. His 1995 debut written by the aforementioned Harmony Korine features adolescents in situations such as rape, underage sexual activity, drug abuse and every other gaudy scenario you can dream of. Misogyny is rife within the film, but it's not an exploration of misogynism, it's just there because the writer and director seem to have a particularly awful view of women. Clark enjoys the controversy his films receive and in response, he makes each film more sexually explicit and outrageous than the last. Clark's films are borderline child pornography as he fetishises his characters to the point of nausea. Distributors now tend to stay as far away from his films as possible, realising that he just brings too much hassle and that the potential profit isn't large enough.
