10 Most Controversial Directors Of All Time

6. Quentin Tarantino

Quentin TarantinoMost Controversial Film: Django Unchained Quite possibly the most famous and recognisable director in the world, Quentin Tarantino has an ardent fanbase that will defend him unquestionably at every turn, no matter how many 'N' words he throws in his films. Tarantino's obsession with that particular word has always been alarming, right from his debut with Reservoir Dogs to his most recent picture, Django Unchained, which is set during the Civil War era. Django Unchained is essentially a white man's fantasy and a really problematic movie for a number of reasons. The grotesque and gratuitous violence of the film is also completely unnecessary and self-indulgent. Violence in cinema is not a problem, but gratuitous, meaningless violence is and Django Unchained is sadly full of it as it ignores saying anything interesting. Slavery was not a B-movie western, Quentin, it was one of the darkest times in American history and doesn't need trivialised.
