Danish filmmaker, Lars Von Trier, is no stranger to controversy. But there is no question Antichrist generated more taboo than any of his projects. When the film you are watching opens with an infant plummeting to their death and that's not the most horrifying part, you know you're in for a rough ride.

As Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg's characters head to a cabin to grieve for their lost son, they begin torturing each other psychologically and physically. As the woman becomes more unhinged, she smashes a block into her husband's groin, knocking him out. She then masturbates him, until he ejaculates a torrent of blood.

Even though the film has scenes of sexual penetration and a disembowelled fox talking, it's this moment that gets stuck in viewers' minds. Unsurprisingly, scenes like this stirred a lot of contention between critics, causing Von Trier to be labelled as a misogynist (despite the director insisting he sympathised more with the female than the male character).

Despite the fact Von Trier hoped Antichrist would be perceived as a theological wonder, its infamously remembered as the film where Willem Dafoe jizzes blood.
