Now, Gary Oldman playing Norman Stansfield; that was genuinely terrifying. It didn't matter that he wasn't a slasher or a masked lunatic like Michael Myers, this narcotics cop who, surprise, surprise, is also a drug addict stole the screen in every scene he was in. There are few scarier things than Gary Oldman's beady little eyes darting around in their sockets as he sniffs the air, all the while listening to classical music on his cassette player. You just had the feeling that he could explode at anytime, a truly unpredictable animal not to be taken lightly. And this was a cop. He was the authority - so who was going to protect you from him? Not only does he bully his henchmen (and everyone in his path), but he also has a particular dislike for children, adding that child-catcher string to his bow.
