Few who have seen The Dark Knight would argue that Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker is not only one of the greatest psycho performances, but one of the greatest by any actor at any time. Ledger put his heart and soul into the role; he portrayed a truly evil Joker, one that was young and strong, but wise and spectacularly deranged. The smart one-liners, smacking of the lips, facial spasms and raw energy all come together perfectly to complete one of the great psycho performances. Naturally, Heath Ledger's sad and untimely death has only added to the immortality of his Joker role, with some even theorising that the role was detrimental to his own mental health during those long months in character.
