10 Most Criminally Underrated Blockbusters Since 2000

8. Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer (2007)

We can already sense that we might lose some of you with this entry, given that Tim Story's Fantastic Four movies were universally panned upon release and generated almost no fan goodwill towards them. But, stay with us on this one and maybe we'll be able to convince you that Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer isn't the cinematic write-off that many deemed it to be. Maybe. The first Fantastic Four arrived in summer 2005 to a middling reception. It was, in effect, a kids movie, which didn't sit well with most fans of the characters. However, the movie did decent enough business for Fox to greenlight a sequel. Perhaps due to the lukewarm reaction to the first movie, the sequel did worse, returning a worldwide total of $289 million against the original's $330 million. Reviews were not kind, and fans reacted extremely poorly. We think the movie deserves a reappraisal, though. If you go into it simply expecting a fun yarn, essentially a story about a bickering family who all love each other in the end and simply happen to have superpowers, we reckon it's hard not to enjoy it. It's definitely a stronger film than the first one, with the addition of the Silver Surfer really improving things and Chris Evans is still endlessly charismatic as Johnny Storm. In fact, we (and, presumably, the eight other fans of the series) were disappointed when we heard that the FF were being rebooted by Fox.
