10 Most Cringeworthy Performances From Otherwise Great Actors

6. Uma Thurman - My Super Ex-Girlfriend

Speaking of actors who've had some serious ups and downs in their career, few big name stars have zig-zagged between the sublime and the sub-par quite so drastically as Uma Thurman.

The 1990s saw her become an icon off the back of Pulp Fiction, but the likes of Batman and Robin and The Avengers (the 1998 one, unfortunately) left her crown very much tarnished.

What a shame, then, that when the dust had barely settled from her triumphant comeback in the two-volume Kill Bill, Thurman once again plunged to the depths with the truly dreadful 2006 comedy My Super Ex-Girlfriend.

First off, it's kind of heartbreaking that, almost immediately after playing one of the most bad-ass big screen heroines ever, Thurman would agree to play G-Girl/Jenny Johnson, a role that hinges so heavily on the outmoded, sexist stereotype of the needy control freak girlfriend.

But the real crime of it all is that My Super Ex-Girlfriend is so painfully unfunny, more certain to induce winces rather than laughs; and that's all the more saddening when you take into account that the film's director is none other than Ghostbusters legend Ivan Reitman.

Come back Mrs Peel and Poison Ivy, all is forgiven.
