It's an extremely sad state of affairs when older film fans need to explain to younger viewers that Robert De Niro is one of the greatest screen actors of all time. The thing is, we can't be too hard on post-millennials here. If your primary knowledge of De Niro is limited to the films he's made this century, you'd be forgiven for thinking he's nothing but a third-rate comedian.

However, as much as the Meet the Parents and Analyse This films might have alienated his old admirers, nothing could have prepared us for Dirty Grandpa. De Niro doing comedy is all well and good, but when it's this kind of sub-Hangover, gross-out fratboy comedy it's another matter entirely.
