10 Most Dangerous Cinematic Aliens
6. War Of The Worlds (2005) - The Invaders
These aliens are barely ever seen, but they use their enormous war machines to do the talking… or, in this case, annihilating.
Contrary to most alien invasion films, Steven Spielberg’s War Of The Worlds does not show these creatures arriving in spaceships.
They arrive through lightning to occupy their fighting tripods, which have been buried underground for eons.
Their weaponry is advanced and the fact that we can only see the sterile hardware and cold-blooded destruction somehow makes the Martians even more ruthless.
Their methods of killing are frightening in their simplicity - blasting human beings and disintegrating them into dust, as though they never existed.
The Martians see humans as a commodity and use human blood and tissue to fertilize their own vegetation, in order to make Earth look more like their home world.
The aliens’ eventual defeat is sweet and reassuring in its irony, confirming the biological order of things and reestablishing the importance of the relationship between people and planet Earth.
