10 Most Delayed Films Ever
6. Avatar 2 (8 Years)
Avatar 2 has been delayed so many times... it's still not out yet! The director, James Cameron, expected to release the first Avatar in 1999. When he realised special effects at the time couldn't match his vision, Avatar was shelved for eight years. After a four-year production, Avatar was released to much praise and it went on to become the most successful film ever.
You’d assume that since the Canadian director laid the groundwork for the first film, the production for the follow-up wouldn't take as long. Cameron had envisioned Avatar as a trilogy and proposed the following sequels would be released in 2014 and 2015. However, Cameron expanded the story so much, he believed he could only do it justice with four more movies. This forced him to rewrite the script, which caused massive delays.
Cameron also insisted the sequel needed to have a distinctive look and so, decided to shoot major scenes underwater. As a result, he had to develop brand-new technology to capture these shots, which lead to further setbacks.
After eight delays, Avatar 2 is set to come out in 2022. However, nobody will be surprised if its release date is pushed back once more.
