10 Most Disappointing Horror Movie Remakes
1. Psycho (1998)
Of course, the ultimate in unnecessary remakes that hang around like a rotten eggy fart around their vastly superior original movies, Psycho 1998 has to take the biscuit for most disappointing horror movie remake of all time - in this list, first really IS the worst.
Anyone who bravely looks Alfred Hitchcock's work in the face and says 'I could do that, just better', is playing a very dangerous game. To have the melons to set your sights on Psycho is even more gob smackingly defiant, and even if this had played out as a technically good movie, there'd still be purist film nerds crying out in anguish the world over.
Obviously, that's not the case though. It's an awkwardly literal shot-for-shot remake starring Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates that loses the Psycho magic as each minute passes - with Roger Ebert saying it best: "genius apparently resides between or beneath the shots, or in chemistry that cannot be timed or counted."
