10 Most Disappointing Horror Movies Of 2019 (So Far)

8. The Silence

You probably didn't hear a great deal about The Silence before its release, which is so ironic only a hack would mention it (hello), but when Netflix belatedly picked it up, it was clear what they were trying to get out of it. Which is precisely why it ended up being disappointing.

No more than a mockbuster in the vein of The Asylum films (it's actually directed by an Asylum writer) - despite being an adaptation of a novel - The Silence was presented as another sensory horror like A Quiet Place. In fact, comparisons with A Quiet Place are impossible to avoid since it's set in a world over-run by monsters who hunt based on sound.

The cast is good and it looks more glossy than you'd expect, but it's not scary, there are no stakes and it plays with ideas that have all too plainly been done better elsewhere.
