10 Most Disappointing Horror Movies Of The Decade (So Far)

7. I Spit On Your Grave 3

Anchor Bay

This series no longer resembles Meir Zarchi’s I Spit On Your Grave (1978), whose female lead took vengeance on a group of men following an assault. Jennifer Hills (Sarah Butler) has transformed into Charles Bronson’s character from the Death Wish sequels, finding trouble in every corner of America and going on a comically over the top rampage as a result.

You know you’re in trouble when a film’s idea of “justice” is having the heroine bite off a fella’s wonder weasel with the zinger “Just the tip, Sweetie”, but why stop there? Why not arm her with a Taser, a baseball bat and a sledgehammer and send her out to fight crime the Bronson way?

According to I Spit On Your Grave 3 – or should that be Thrice Spit On Your Grave? – all men are monosyllabic slobs capable only of demeaning women, who in turn are “empowered” by killing them. There are constant references to abuse that while intended to give the narrative “depth”, just become repetitive and give no real insight.
