10 Most Disappointing Sci-Fi Movie Sequels Ever

9. Thor: The Dark World

With Thor's current presence as one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most beloved characters, it's interesting to look back at how he used to be presented. It goes without saying that Taika Waititi's ridiculously fun Thor: Ragnarok turned him into something of a pop-culture phenomenon, and that's certainly a good thing considering that the second film in the franchise was one of the MCU's hardest watches.

Thor: The Dark World isn't a bad film per se, it's just unbelievably dull. The Dark Elves were bland, Jane Foster's backwards evolution into damsel-in-distress was unforgivable, and the grim tone of the film just made the whole thing seem devoid of anything remotely fun.

No, the first Thor wasn't a perfect film, but the 2013 sequel completely deleted everything that worked - the whimsical tone, the light-hearted nature of Jane and Thor's dynamic and those beautiful colours - to turn the God of Thunder's second tale in a turgid and all-round uninteresting affair.
