10 Most Disappointing Sci-Fi Movie Sequels Ever

8. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

After a series of entertaining-but-lacklustre sequels and a decade of development hell, Jurassic World revived one of cinema's greatest franchises by paying tribute to the film that started it all. Unfortunately, history started to repeat itself as its 2018 sequel distanced itself from what made its predecessor work - much like the first JP sequel did back in 1997. The only difference is that The Lost World was a far more enjoyable film.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom rehashed the genetically-modified hybrid strand of its predecessor (to much lesser success) while single-handedly destroying the one thing that made the Jurassic Park films so visually appealing: The freakin' dinosaur island.

So while it started off rather well - the volcano stuff and the dino rampage was great - the bloated production's slow-moving second half was too far removed from what the franchise was built upon. The mansion setting felt far too restrained and it took the film into horror film territory. Again, the idea of doing something different in a franchise now built on nostalgia was certainly admirable, but it just felt misguided in a Jurassic Park film.

Let's just hope the upcoming third film can take things back to basics in order to let the JP story - or this chapter of it at least - end on a high.
