10 Most Disappointing Sci-Fi Movie Sequels Ever

6. Alien 3

Terminator 3
20th century Fox

Another classic sci-fi series reduced to a shell of itself in one fell swoop, Alien 3 was the beginning of a downward spiral for the once-glorious space horror and, in many people's minds, was the lowest point of the entire franchise.

In all honesty, it's not as bad as most think and, in spite of a controversial decision here and there, there are some silver linings that ultimately see it through (Sigourney Weaver being one of them).

However, that doesn't change the fact that it was a major comedown for the Alien franchise. It's not unheard of for a sequel to miss the mark, but as the first follow-up - Aliens - took the series to even greater heights than the original, the decline in standard between films was more than a little deflating.

A film that was marketed as '3 times the suspense, 3 times the danger, 3 times the terror', it failed on all three counts and only succeeded in terrorising its fans with how much of a setback it was while the only thing it put in danger was the whole bloody franchise.
