2. The Matrix Reloaded
The Matrix managed to steal a sizeable chunk of The Phantom Menace's thunder when it made it's way onto our cinema screens in 1999 and that is not just because The Phantom Menace was a bit gash, it was mostly because The Matrix was awesome. An original and super stylish sci-fi film which was so damn cool it influenced a whole raft of films which followed. Everyone wanted to see more of this universe so the idea of a sequel was well received but then those same people saw the sequel and were left totally bemused. What it the hell was going on? Where had all the cool stuff gone? OK so the highway chase is quite cool and there are still some stylish kung-fu moves to be had, but the whole thing had been over complicated with Architects and Agent Smith going rogue, not to mention some pretty ropey CGI. It felt like The Matrix and looked like The Matrix, but it was just missing some vital components like decent dialogue and a plot which made anything resembling sense. Things obviously got worse in Revolutions, but it didn't disappoint me as much as this had because my expectations were so low.
