10 Most Disappointing Stephen King Movies
8. Children Of The Corn
Children Of The Corn is one of the most famous adaptations of a King short story, with 7 sequels and a TV movie remake. It was spoofed by South Park and inspired Testament’s song Disciples Of The Watch.
But is it actually any good? No, not really.
Humourless and overly reliant on cheap shocks, the movie even resorts to that old standby, the and-then-she-woke-up-and-it-had-all-been-a-dream sequence. Supporting characters have “cannon fodder” written all over them, which might’ve been forgivable in a movie that was at least competently directed and decently acted.
If that sounds a tad harsh, bear in mind Cinefantastique’s judgment from way back in September 1984: “King’s mass-market fiction has inspired some monumental cinematic dreck, but Children Of The Corn is a new low even by schlock standards.”
Credit where credit’s due, however: it’s a much better film than Children Of The Corn V: Fields Of Terror.
