10 Most Disappointing Stephen King Movies
7. Silver Bullet
Adapted by King from his own novel Cycle Of The Werewolf, Silver Bullet promises a great deal, especially with a supporting cast that includes Terry O’Quinn (The Stepfather), Everett McGill (Twin Peaks) and Lethal Weapon’s Gary Busey (who’s either high or pretending to be). Instead, the movie’s just jaw dropping in its weirdness.
A sequence where McGill, playing a small town’s reverend who also happens to be a lycanthrope, imagines his congregation turning into werewolves is bizarre enough, but when he pursues a young boy in a high-powered motorized wheelchair capable of reaching 50 mph, the movie discards logic entirely and flies off into the stratosphere.
Blinded by a firework (don’t ask), McGill starts wearing an eyepatch that gives him an unfortunate resemblance to Nick Fury, but even though his victims all bear bite wounds and claw marks, nobody attributes the killings to a werewolf. “Psychotics are more active when the moon is full,” Busey explains at one point. “He’s as human as you and me!"
