10 Most Disappointing Villains From Otherwise Great Movies

10. Steven Jacobs - Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes

The Great Movie: Thanks in large part due to some incredible special effects and an amazing performance from Andy Serkis, this reboot that no one asked for turned into the surprise hit of the summer.

The Disappointing Villain: With Caesar€™s main conflict coming from humanity as a whole, those feelings are personified by the default bad guy, Steven Jacobs. Given little to do other than act as the most irresponsible executive ever, Jacobs is easily the weakest part of the film.

Like any generic villain, he€™s only interested in money, foregoing safety and basic morality in his quest to achieve it. His ruthless ambition was the driving force of his character but we never really understood it. As a result, actions like the dismissal of his lead scientist€™s warnings and taunting the captive apes come across as unbelievable.

To compound things, the depiction of Jacobs only looks worse in hindsight. For one, we now know David Oyelowo to be an incredibly talented actor, so seeing him wasted in such a one-dimensional role here is frustrating. Furthermore, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes proved that this series can craft an incredible villain when it wants to. Koba was arguably the best thing in the sequel, making Jacobs€™s shortcomings all the more apparent.
