10 Most Disappointing Villains From Otherwise Great Movies
9. Lord Humungus - Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
The Great Movie: Long before Fury Road melted peoples faces off with its insane action sequences, The Road Warrior turned the Mad Max franchise from a small post-apocalyptic independent to a sprawling action epic.
The Disappointing Villain: Though he both looks unique and formidable, Lord Humungus, leader of a group of marauders, was anything but. As Max tries to help a settlement escape Humunguss clutches, its Humunguss men who do most of the work for him.
Specifically, his second-in-command Wez is much more present as an antagonist. He appears early and often, frequently in close-quarters combat with Max. Hes much more suited to be the antagonist of the film and Humungus really offers nothing more to the proceedings.
In theory, his eloquence and pacifism when compared to his rowdy underlings should have been noteworthy. Instead, it portrays him as meek and unassuming, easily overmatched by his more violent cohorts.
The original intent was to have Humungus be revealed as Maxs former partner, the badly burned Jim Goose from the first movie. It might have detracted from the main narrative but this could have gone a long way to redeeming this otherwise overshadowed villain.
