Of course, after we learn of Captain America's decision to live the life he always wanted rather than come back when he was told to, there's then the resonating question of what happens to his title. Where anyone else would be intrinsically tied to the name as their character, Cap has the luxury of being able to lease it out along with his shield - and there's only two people that could ever take on the mantle.

Whilst Bucky has been his friend, his enemy, and then BFF throughout the MCU, it's Falcon that gets the honour of the Captain's trust, handed his shield at the close and something of Captain America's identity along with it. He's still Falcon, there's no doubt about that - but the torch passing of this moment is one designed to tug at our chests in an undeniable way.

It's the end of an era and the start of something new all in one simple exchange. That Cap waited out his lifetime to be able to be with Sam and Bucky at this moment is just another layer to the sad, beautiful onion that is Avengers: Endgame.
