As with most hero vs hero stories, there's often a third part of the equation which comes along to unite the protagonists. Many viewers were confident from the first trailer that this would also be the case for Godzilla vs. Kong, as they were convinced Mechagodzilla would appear.
Fans of the Toho series were delighted to see this creature make it to the MonsterVerse, as it seemed he was too goofy a concept for a western audience. However, from the moment the robotic beast sprang to life, he was anything but.
His reveal came as Bernie, Madison and Josh stumbled across Apex booting him up for a test run. As the mechanical beast rose into the shot, and decimated an unfortunate titan with his laser, you knew he was a force to be reckoned with.
It makes perfect sense that humanity would attempt to get a foot in the door of dominance, as the idea of bowing to Titans larger than ourselves isn't something that humans would be happy about. But, as with any tale of playing god, it would come to bite them in the back later in the flick.
